Crested Butte Weddings & Elopements
The wildflower capital of Colorado. Ten Peaks, Mt. Crested Butte, and some of the most breathtaking alpine meadows in the Rockies. Full weddings and intimate elopements.
Why Crested Butte
The Wildflower Capital of Colorado
Crested Butte is Colorado's best-kept wedding secret. While Telluride and Aspen get most of the attention, this former mining town hidden in the Elk Mountains has some of the most dramatic wildflower meadows, most photogenic mountain backdrops, and most genuine Western charm anywhere in the Rockies. The locals call it "the last great ski town," and they mean it.
The wildflower season here is legitimately world-famous — mid-July through early August transforms the entire valley into carpets of lupine, paintbrush, columbine, and a dozen other species. It's the kind of landscape that makes couples weep when they see it for the first time. But Crested Butte is also stunning in every other season: golden aspens in fall, deep powder in winter, and wildflowers AGAIN in late May and June at lower elevations.
I've been photographing weddings and elopements in Crested Butte for years, and it remains one of my favorite places to work. Less crowded than Telluride, more intimate than Aspen, and absolutely unforgettable.

Permits & Logistics
Getting Married in Crested Butte: What You Need to Know
Crested Butte is surrounded by the Gunnison National Forest, which means most backcountry ceremony sites require a Special Use Permit from the U.S. Forest Service. Popular public ceremony sites include locations on Kebler Pass, Gothic Road, and in the East River valley. Private venues like Ten Peaks and Mt. Crested Butte Resort handle their own logistics. As part of planning, I'll help you determine whether your chosen location needs a permit and walk you through the application process.
Common Questions
Crested Butte Wedding & Elopement FAQ
When is wildflower season in Crested Butte?
+
Peak wildflower season runs from mid-July through early August, with the biggest bloom typically happening the last two weeks of July. The exact timing varies year to year based on snowpack and weather. If you want to guarantee wildflowers in your photos, plan for late July and have contingency dates in the first week of August.
How does Crested Butte compare to Telluride for weddings?
+
Telluride is more refined and established, with a luxury resort feel and better-known venues. Crested Butte is more rustic, more genuine Western, and typically 15-25% less expensive across the board. Wildflowers are significantly better in Crested Butte, but Telluride has more dramatic box canyon views. Both are stunning — the choice depends on the feel you want.
How do guests get to Crested Butte?
+
The closest airport is Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC), about 30 minutes from town. Guests can also fly into Denver (4.5 hours by car) or Montrose (2.5 hours by car). For larger weddings, some couples arrange shuttle buses from Denver or Gunnison. Winter travel requires 4WD vehicles and weather-aware planning.
Can we have our ceremony in the wildflower meadows?
+
Yes, but with careful planning. Public wildflower meadows along Kebler Pass, Gothic Road, and the East River all require Forest Service permits for ceremonies. Private venues like Ten Peaks have their own meadows that don't require separate permits. Hiking-accessible backcountry meadows can work for small elopements with appropriate permits.
How much does a Crested Butte wedding photographer cost?
+
Crested Butte elopement packages start at $4,995 for 4 hours of coverage. Wedding packages start at $5,995 for 6 hours. Custom quotes for full weddings typically range from $6,000 to $9,000 depending on hours, second shooter needs, and travel. Every package includes planning support, permit guidance, color-enhanced digital files, and an online gallery.
