Why Elope With Us

An Elopement Experience,
Not Just a Photo Session

Your elopement deserves more than a photographer who shows up for an hour and leaves. I've been guiding couples through adventure elopements for 20+ years, and my goal is to make your day feel effortless — from planning the timeline to scouting secret locations, from permit advice to navigating wilderness weather. By the time your ceremony begins, we know each other. That's when the real, authentic photos happen.

Whether you want a sunrise ceremony at Ice Lake Basin, a sunset vow exchange at Glacier Point, or a quiet lakeside elopement in Tahoe, I know the places, the light, the permits, and the backup plans. My job is to make sure all you have to think about on your elopement day is the person standing next to you.

Common Questions

Elopement FAQ

Do we need a permit to elope in a national park?

+

Yes, most national parks (including Yosemite) require a Special Use Permit for wedding ceremonies, even small ones. Permits typically cost $150-$250 and need to be applied for well in advance. I'll walk you through the entire permit process during our planning sessions and recommend the best locations for your group size.

What's the best time of year to elope in the mountains?

+

It depends on the look you want. Late June through early October offers the most reliable weather and access to high-alpine locations. Late September brings stunning fall colors in Telluride and Crested Butte. Winter elopements (December-March) are dramatic and beautiful, especially in Lake Tahoe, but require winter gear and careful planning.

How many guests can we have at an elopement?

+

Most elopements I photograph are 0-20 people. Beyond that, it starts to feel more like a small wedding than an elopement, and different locations become necessary. Some national park ceremony sites limit group sizes to 12 or fewer, so guest count often determines where we can actually hold the ceremony.

Can we hike to our ceremony location?

+

Absolutely. Some of my favorite ceremonies have been at the end of a trail most couples never see. I'm wilderness first responder certified and comfortable guiding couples into remote locations — everything from moderate day hikes to multi-mile trails. During planning I'll help you pick a location that matches your fitness level and ambition.
