Tofino Weddings & Elopements
The wild west coast of Vancouver Island. Endless sand beaches, ancient rainforest, and Pacific storms that roll in against a backdrop of 1,000-year-old trees. One of the most dramatic elopement destinations in North America.
Why Tofino
Wild Pacific, Ancient Rainforest, Endless Sand
Tofino is the end of the road on Vancouver Island's west coast — a small town of 2,000 surrounded by the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. The beaches here stretch for miles without development, the old-growth rainforest behind them feels prehistoric, and the light — filtered through marine layer and Pacific mist — is unlike anywhere else I shoot.
I've photographed Tofino weddings and elopements in every season. Summer brings warm water and long golden-hour windows. Winter storm season (November through February) draws couples specifically for the dramatic weather — waves crashing at the shoreline, fog rolling through the cedars, and a moody atmosphere you can't manufacture.
For couples who feel called to the Pacific Northwest but want something wilder than Oregon or Washington — Tofino delivers. It's genuinely remote, genuinely wild, and one of the most photogenic settings I work in.

Best Places to Get Married in Tofino
The venues and ceremony sites I've shot at most often, and why each one is worth considering for your day.
Chesterman Beach
Tofino's iconic long sand beach with Frank Island in the middle. Low tide creates a walkway out to the island for intimate ceremonies. Dramatic in any weather, extraordinary at sunset.
The Wickaninnish Inn
Tofino's flagship luxury resort on Chesterman Point. Full-service weddings, multiple outdoor ceremony sites directly on the beach, and world-class hospitality. Book 12+ months out.
Long Beach (Pacific Rim National Park)
10 miles of uninterrupted sand within Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Genuinely remote, often empty, and spectacular for sunrise/sunset portraits. Parks Canada permit required.
Rainforest Trail
Ancient old-growth coastal temperate rainforest with massive Sitka spruce and western red cedar. Board-walked trails make ceremonies accessible. Otherworldly in the diffused forest light.
Tofino Botanical Gardens
A private botanical garden in Tofino combining native rainforest, sculpture, and cultivated plantings. Full-service wedding venue with on-site catering and reception space.
Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge
A floating luxury tented-camp resort only accessible by floatplane or boat, 30 minutes from Tofino. True backcountry wilderness setting. All-inclusive buyout for the ultimate private wedding.
Cox Bay
A wilder, more surf-focused beach south of Chesterman. Dramatic rock headlands and powerful waves. Ideal for couples wanting a raw, untamed Pacific setting.

Summer
June – August
Peak season. Warmest water, driest weather, and long daylight hours. Beach ceremonies most reliable. Book far ahead — Tofino's limited accommodations fill up fast.
Fall
September – October
Shoulder season with often spectacular weather. The rainforest is at its greenest, sunsets extend well into evening, and crowds thin dramatically. One of my favorite windows for Tofino shoots.
Winter
November – March
Storm-watching season — massive Pacific storms roll in and create some of the most atmospheric wedding photography possible. Cozy lodge aesthetic, empty beaches, and genuinely dramatic conditions. Most wild and cinematic.
Spring
April – May
Transitional. Rainforest comes alive, wildflowers begin, whale migration season in March-April. Variable weather but often breathtaking. Gray whales pass right offshore.
Permits & Logistics
Getting Married in Tofino: What You Need to Know
Tofino ceremonies on Pacific Rim National Park Reserve land (Long Beach, Schooner Cove, Wickaninnish Beach) require a Parks Canada special use permit — typically $150-$400 CAD. Ceremonies at District of Tofino beaches (Chesterman, Cox Bay) go through municipal permitting. Private venues like the Wickaninnish Inn and Tofino Botanical Gardens handle permits on-property. All processes are more streamlined than comparable US national parks. I coordinate all permit requirements as part of planning.
Common Questions
Tofino Wedding & Elopement FAQ
How much does a Tofino wedding photographer cost?
+
Tofino elopement packages start at USD $4,995 for 4 hours of coverage. Travel from Colorado adds flights and ferry/floatplane costs, typically $800-1,500 additional. Every package includes planning consultation, permit coordination, color-enhanced digital files, and a private online gallery.
How do we get to Tofino?
+
Most travel options route through Vancouver, BC. From Vancouver: either drive-ferry-drive via Nanaimo (5-6 hours total), fly direct to Tofino Long Beach Airport (YAZ) on Pacific Coastal Airlines (1 hour), or fly to Victoria and drive (4 hours). Floatplane from Vancouver Harbor is the fastest and most scenic option.
What's the best time of year to elope in Tofino?
+
It depends entirely on what you want. Summer (July-August) offers the most reliable conditions. Fall (September-October) is my favorite — beautiful light, mild weather, few crowds. Winter storm season (November-February) is unmatched for dramatic moody photography — if the weather doesn't scare you, the images are extraordinary.
Does Tofino storm season affect weddings?
+
It's a feature, not a bug. Couples who book winter Tofino weddings do it specifically for the storm atmosphere — pounding surf, dramatic skies, cozy lodges with fires. Weather delays are rare because 'good weather' in that season still means moody and photographable. We always have indoor backup options planned.
Can we do a rainforest elopement?
+
Absolutely. The Rainforest Trail in Pacific Rim National Park is specifically built for foot access to old-growth rainforest — ceremonies can happen along the boardwalk or in clearings. The diffused forest light is some of the most beautiful portrait light I've ever worked with. Parks Canada permit required.
