Looking for a spectacular venue for your nuptials? As an experienced adventure wedding photographer, I know you can’t go wrong with a romantic ceremony and reception in Telluride, Colorado. A Telluride wedding ticks all of the boxes for a perfect destination wedding:
- Unparalleled vistas of mountains, lakes and woodlands ü
- A historic downtown brimming with charm ü
- Picture-perfect wedding venues ü
- Ideal spots for posh, full-service receptions ü
Truly, a Telluride ski resort wedding can be the ideal choice for couples that want that perfect mix of romance, tradition and adventure. This amazing venue offers a myriad of spots for your ceremony and reception, including:
The San Sophia Overlook
This spot is one of my favorite Telluride wedding venues. The views are remarkable and there truly are few places on the planet where you can share your vows surrounded by this level of majesty. In addition to sweeping vistas of the San Juan Mountain range, San Sophia also offers a view of the picturesque mountain village of Telluride below.
Of course, this spot is also ideal for couples that want a larger wedding, and the overlook can accommodate up to 250 guests. The overlook is accessed via gondola and even the ride up in the gondola will be part of the experience for you and your guests.
After the ceremony, I highly recommend booking your reception at Allred’s, which is adjacent to the gondola, and how many couples can say they hosted a reception at 10,551 feet elevation? It’s almost an understatement to say that the views from the Allred’s dining room are spectacular, and the restaurant provides exceptional cuisine and accommodates up to 250 guests.
Palmyra Lookout
This is a new offering for couples seeking a luxury mountain wedding. Perched at 11,200 feet and affording seemingly never-ending views of the mountains and pines, Palmyra Lookout can be an ideal site for your ceremony.
This venue currently is available during the summer season only, but that may change in the future. The ceremony capacity is set at 75 guests, however, that should increase for weddings in 2024, so you may be able to open up your ceremony to more friends and family soon.
Alpino Vino
If you love the beauty of winter in the mountains, the stunning Alpino Vino restaurant can be an excellent option to consider. Offering sumptuous Italian cuisine, the restaurant is at the top of the Telluride ski resort at 12,200 feet and is available for up to 24 guests during the winter season only. I love this location for its stunning views, and it is truly a perfect spot for fashionable intimate weddings or even rehearsal dinners.
Gorrono Ranch
This mountain-side wedding and reception venue offers the rustic charm of the old west (it was once a ranch owned by a Basque sheepherder) and the magic of the surrounding San Juan Mountains. Ceremonies typically are held on one of the outdoor decks, where guests enjoy stunning views as they watch you join your lives together.
The two dining rooms, resplendent with stone fireplaces, are perfect for receptions for up to 200 guests. There’s even a cool whiskey-tasting bar at the ranch’s saloon, which can add some fun western flair to your Telluride wedding. If you are searching for a vintage, yet elegant option with indoor-outdoor space, this can be an excellent option to consider.
The Peaks Resort & Spa
If you are searching for a sort of all-inclusive option for your Telluride ski resort wedding, The Peaks Resort can be a great option. Not only does it provide you with plenty of luxurious accommodations for your guests, but you also can host the wedding and reception on-site.
Ceremonies (and cocktail hours) typically are hosted on Mt. Wilson Terrace, which boasts stunning views no matter what season you choose to tie the knot. From there, you can host an amazing reception in the Crystal Room, which can accommodate up to 150 guests comfortably.
Tempter House
Now, Tempter House isn’t really a wedding venue, but it’s just too special not to put it out there as a perfect spot for your honeymoon accommodations. If you want the ultimate level of privacy and some of the planet’s best views, and also love the idea of staying in a ski-in, ski-out luxury accommodation, this secluded mountainside house is a perfect fit.
In fact, this spot is so secluded that winter guests have to be escorted up to the house via snowmobile. The home accommodates four, but it’s truly perfect for two. Snuggle up fireside or grab some snifters of brandy and soak under a sky full of stars in the hot tub. The Telluride Ski Resort staff will stock up the fridge and bar (you can book a private chef to prepare gourmet meals) so that you can remain snug and cozy in your idyllic mountain retreat and leave the cares of the world behind entirely for a few bliss-filled days.
How To Get To Telluride
While you could fly into Denver and drive, Telluride is more than six hours from the city, so I typically recommend that clients fly into Denver and then take a short flight either to Telluride’s local airport or into the Montrose airport, which is about 90 minutes away. Another option would be to fly into the Durango airport, which is about 2.5 hours south of Telluride.
Your Wedding Photography
As a seasoned Telluride wedding photographer, I can provide you with all of the traditional pictures that you want, although I put a unique spin on my photography to grab those candid, carefree moments that truly capture the joy of the occasion.
While you are certain to cherish your wedding photography for a lifetime, my goal is to provide you with an exceptional experience and ensure that your special day is filled with memories of love, adventure and the purest joy.
Certainly, the backdrop of Telluride adds a special and rare ambiance, but I strive to truly get to know my couples and curate photography that will speak to them emotionally every time they sift through that wedding album or pass by a framed print on the mantel.
In addition to your ceremony and reception photography, I can take you out for an amazing adventure photography session. We can hike, mountain bike, ski or kayak to unique locations with breathtaking scenery to capture just the two of you. I’ve spent years exploring Colorado and the San Juan Mountains and can find locations you truly have to see to believe.
